Oldest Football Club in Spain

Posted on

Little did we know that one of the founders of the oldest football Club in Spain found his finally resting place in the cemetery at the end of the Old Manse drive!

Recent guests at the Old Manse had traveled from Huelva in Andalucia to find the grave of  William Alexander MacKay who moved from the Highlands in 1883. Whilst working for Rio Tinto Company he started Recreativo de Huelva, a sports recreation club, which today is better known as Real Club Recreativo de Huelva.

One of the club's claims to fame is in the 2006 season they beat Real Madrid 3 - 0

We had a fabulous stay The Old Manse, the place itself is lovely and very clean, with great attention to detail and beautiful gardens. Absolutely loved the decor and the room we stayed in was so spacious. The breakfast was amazing with a wide variety and not to mention the delicious cakes. Neale & Linda were great hosts offering advice on places to visit even down to coffee shops along the way, which we wouldn't have found on our own! They even gave us some cake to takeaway with us on our journey, which was very thoughtful. We would highly recommend The Old Manse and would definitely stay there again. A delightful experience with a personal touch
