Whaligoe Steps

Posted on

Whaligoe Steps can be found north of Lybster on the A99 heading towards Wick. The 365 man-made steps take you down the cliff side to a small habour below which was once used by fishig boats to land their catch. This was then hauled in baskets up the steps on the shoulders local women to the track above. There is also a great little cafe at the top which served refreshments.

We stayed at the Old Manse for one night when riding the NC500 by motorcycle. It was excellent from beginning to end. A very lovely welcome from Neale and Linda who made us a cup of tea as soon as we got there. We sat and had a chat in the guest lounge. The house is stunning. Attention to detail is the order of the day. You will want for nothing. Breakfast was wonderful. You won't find paper napkins or foil wrapped butter here, everything is done properly. Linda even packed us a couple of her home made cheese scones for later in the day and they were delicious. I have rated this B&B as mid-range price but it is luxury accommodation
