Kirkmichael Church, The Black Isle

Posted on

Kirkmichael church nestles on the shores of the Cromarty Firth and could easily be missed on the drive out to Cromarty, its situated just outside the village of Balblair on the B9163. Its about a 35 minute drive from the Old Manse B&B.

The medieval church was on the verge of collapse but was saved by the community through the Kirkmichael Trust. The quality of the work is astounding, the information boards are fascinating and the preserved gravestones found in the church are richly ornamented.

Well worth a visit!

We stayed at the Old Manse for one night when riding the NC500 by motorcycle. It was excellent from beginning to end. A very lovely welcome from Neale and Linda who made us a cup of tea as soon as we got there. We sat and had a chat in the guest lounge. The house is stunning. Attention to detail is the order of the day. You will want for nothing. Breakfast was wonderful. You won't find paper napkins or foil wrapped butter here, everything is done properly. Linda even packed us a couple of her home made cheese scones for later in the day and they were delicious. I have rated this B&B as mid-range price but it is luxury accommodation
